What this is
A microscopic traffic simulator that runs entirely in your browser — car following,
gap acceptance, signal control and pedestrians, stepped ten times a second. This
software is typically reserved for traffic engineers and consultants but my goal is
to bring this capability to everyone.
Delay and level-of-service figures are uncalibrated — Treat any
delay figure as a comparison between two runs of this model rather than a
prediction about a real one. Add your own real traffic data to make things accurate
or submit a data collection request to receive a quote for me to collect it for
you.
What this can do
Inspired by StreetMix.net, I hope this platform can similarly be used by street
activists, neighborhood associations, city engineers and planners, and developers to
illustrate and enumerate changes to our street networks.
Does your neighborhood see a ton of cut-through traffic? Model it and propose road
closures or diverters to your local government and use this tool to help explain the
concepts. Are your citizens asking for an All-Way Stop with crosswalks in their
neighborhood? Model it and see if it really changes anything about local traffic.
Developers are often required to submit Trip Generation reports for larger projects,
use this tool to request data and I'll create the report for you.
Transparently, I do hope to offer data collection services to augment this tool. If
a traffic conversation has traction, I'd love to discuss how I can provide the
traffic data collection for your project. I can collect turning movement counts,
speed surveys, and more. I've developed custom hardware that can get this job
cheaper and more quickly than traditional tube or human counters. Submit a request

Where the geometry comes from
Street centrelines, lane counts, street names and traffic control are read from
OpenStreetMap — © OpenStreetMap contributors, licensed under the
Open Database Licence (ODbL). Anything the map does not carry is substituted by
this tool and listed under Assumptions on the model it applies to.
Address and intersection search is Esri's World Geocoding Service,
© Esri and its data partners. The geocoder finds the point; every street name you
see after that is OpenStreetMap's.
